‘Rugs and Carpets from Distinguished Collections’

Rugs and Carpets from Distinguished Collections will be auctioned at Sotheby's London on Tuesday 3rd November 2015, during the 'Arts of the Islamic World sales. The anticipated top lot is a fine silk Persian Heriz medallion carpet with poetic inscriptions, estimated between £100,000- £130,000. Also a Persian Khorasan carpet from the Safavid period circa 17th century, estimated between £40,000-£60,000. There is also a highly decorative north Indian (Agra) Jail carpet circa 1900, estimated between £25,000-£40,000. London's wholesale Oriental rug warehouses have seen the delivery of new stock arriving from all parts of the Oriental rug and carpet producing world, David J Wilkins believes that prices are as low as they have been for some time, and with the lifting of embargo's prices of Persian rugs and carpets are sure to rise. www.orientalrugexperts.com
