May Beattie Lecture 2019

This year, the annual May Beattie Lecture, will be held at the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford on 30th October 2019. The lecture will be given by Stefano Ionescu on the topic, Anatolian rugs in Transylvanian Churches; In the footsteps of May Beattie. The talk is a chance to learn more about the rich legacy of Anatolian rugs in Transylvania, Romania and the unique historical circumstances under which they came to be preserved in this region from the unrivaled expert in this area of oriental carpet scholarship. The second lecture in the Oriental Rug and Textile Society (ORTS) Autumn program takes place at St James Piccadilly in London on Wednesday 16th October 2019 at 6:30 pm.Fiona Kerlogue will present on the topic of Malay Gold Thread Embroidery.

Dogny Auction’s Oriental Rug & Carpet Sale

On Tuesday 1st October 2019, Dogny Auction's of Lausanne will be holding there autumn sale to include a consignment of Oriental rugs and carpet. Consisting of 699 lots including both antique and contemporary pieces, the stand out lot is a fine Persian silk Isfahan carpet, with a field depicting birds and cloud band design, estimated at 5,000-8,000 CHF.

Oriental Rug & Carpet Auction Vienna

The Austria Auction Company will be holding there Antique Oriental Rug, Carpet & Textile sale, on Saturday September 28th 2019. The sale will take place at the Palais Breuner rooms in Vienna, and will include oriental rugs and Persian carpets as well as flat weaves. One of the stand out pieces is lot 161 a 16th century eight-lobed star Ushak carpet from a private collection, estimated at £90,000-£140,000, also lot 189 a fine Tekke Turkmen carpet, estimated at £18,000-£28,000, and a Yomut Turkmen carpet lot 137 estimated at £6,000-£11,000. The sale also has a number of fine oriental rugs and carpets from the Franz Sailer collection.

Nagel Auktionen of Stuttgart, will be holding there annual autumn sale of Rugs & Carpets, Textiles & Islamic Art on Tuesday 17th September 2019. The sale will comprise of top quality pieces mostly consigned from private collections. Highlights include lot 69, a beautiful 19th century Qashqai Shekarlu rug from the Eric Jacobson collection, estimated at $6000-$9000, also lot 124, a fine Persian Mohtasham Kashan silk rug, and lot 183 an Antique Persian Serapi carpet, and Lot 163 a square antique Turkish Oushak carpet.

Nazmiyal Auctions New York City

On the 15th September 2019, Nazmiyal Auctions will be holding there inaugural sale of fine oriental rugs and carpets, made up of pieces from the Nazmiyal collection and other private owners. Some of the rugs and carpets will have a low starting bid in order to encourage members of the public and designers to purchase oriental rugs and carpets for the antique and vintage furnishing market, which is showing a marked upturn and less minimalist approach. Among the the more than 100 oriental rugs and carpets, the stand out pieces are a Persian Haji Jalili Tabriz, circa 1880, lot 1004 estimated at $6,000-$10,000 and a antique Turkish carpet, lot 1010, estimated at $10,000-$15,000. Plus several vintage Moroccan rugs.

The Rug Show New York

The rug show New York will take place at the Javits Centre in New York City, on September 7th-10th 2019. The show is North America's premier contemporary rug and carpet show. Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers of Fine Art, will be holding an auction of both classical oriental rugs and carpets along with some modern pieces. Among the antique carpets is a fine selection of Heriz carpets, Caucasian rugs. An exceptionally fine Petag Tabriz carpet with a Safavid paradise design is one of the stand out pieces. The antique auction will take place on the 18th September 2019 in Copenhagen. Koller's auction house in Zurich, will be holding there carpet sale on Thursday 26th September 2019. The sale comprises of 109 lots, highlights include a very fine Persian Tabriz silk palace carpet, with hunting motifs, also noteworthy is a Lotto Ushak carpet dating from the 17th century.

Oriental Rug Auctions News May 2019

The Austria Auction Company's spring sale of Fine Antique Oriental Rugs XV, will be held at the Palais Breuner saleroom in Vienna on Saturday 18th May 2019. The sale comprises of 215 lots of rugs, carpets and textiles from across Eurasia. As is usual with this auction house the sale reiles heavily on small private European collections. On this occasion, the Siawosch Azadi collection in Hamburg has provided a mix of about 75 mainly 19th-century Persian tribal, town and village weaving's, as well as Turkomen and other Central Asian tribal rugs and bags, While a second significant collection consists of almost fifty pieces from an unnamed Italian seller. One of the standout rugs on offer is a mid-19th century silk-wefted herati designed Qashqai kelleh, lot 137 estimated at £10,000-£15,000.

Material Culture of Philadelphia are holding their Fine Decorative & Collectible Antique Oriental Rug sale on Monday 29th April 2019. The sale comprises 163 lots, including a strong selection of decorative antique Persian, Turkish, Indian and Chinese rugs and carpets, as well as a wide selection of collectible kilims, bags and trappings. One of the highlights of the sale is lot 87, a Mohtasham Kashan rug previously featured in Eberhart Herrman's catalogue, Von Lotto Bis Tekke (1978, no44), estimated at £11,000-£19,000.
