Austria Auction Company

The Austria Auction Company will be holding there no reserve Oriental rugs, carpets, textiles, and trapping sale on Saturday 14th August 2021. This auction has a large collection of Turkmen trappings, alongside bags and sumakh panels from North West Persian and the southern Caucasus. It's the southern Caucasus that provide the most interesting carpets in the sale. Three pile rugs and one flat weave cover, illustrate the different weaving traditions from the Kazak in the central west to the more southerly Karabagh region and along the Talish plain in the east. The three medallion Kazak rug (lot 94 estimated €3,000-€4,000) has the long glossy pile, borders and deep red, yellow and dark green associated with Kazak rugs of older vintage and high quality. The three medallion type is also associated with Lori Pambak rugs.

Austria Auction Company, Fine Antique Oriental Rugs XXV

The Austria Auction Company will be holding there fourth rug sale of the year on 12th June 2021. The Fine Antique Oriental Rugs XXV sale will include an Impressive selection of collectable oriental rugs and carpets form all over the weaving world. There are three main areas that deserve special attention, pile and flat weave bags, Chinese and Tibetan weavings, and finally, Turkmen rugs. The sale has a number of Chinese silk and metal thread embroideries, and large palace sized carpets, lot 65, a silk and gold thread dragon rug, unites these two categories as it bears an inscription that dedicates it for imperial use in the Jiguang Pavilion in the Forbidden City in Beijing, estimate €30,000-40,000. One of the most interesting lots of the auction is a fresh to the market small south Caucasian rug with a field totally filled with a hooked diamond medallion design that relates very closely to Azerbaijan silk embroideries, lot 91 estimate €40,000-60,000.

Skinners auction house in Massachusetts are holding their Fine Oriental Rugs & Carpets sale on the 2nd May 2021. The sale includes a number of fine examples of rugs and decorative carpets and textiles. Most of the lots come from major rug collections throughout the US and Canada, and some of the highlights are early Turkmen trappings, and a main carpet, including a rare Salor chuval. Also a group of 17th-18th century Chinese rugs and textiles, and many early Anatolian, Caucasian and northwest Persian pieces most of which are in good condition.

Christie’s London Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds, Including Oriental Rugs and Carpets

Christie's auction house London is holding their Art of the Islamic World Including Oriental Rugs and Carpets sale on 1st April 2021. The sale includes over 60 lots of oriental rugs and carpets spanning nearly four centuries. The highlight of the sale is an important 17th century Polonaise carpet, formally part of the noble collection of the Pio Falco family, its identical pair remains in the Palazzo del Principe museum in Genoa. This carpet is in remarkable condition retaining a large amount of its silk pile and gold and silver thread, it really exemplifies the golden age of Persian Safavid weaving under Shah Abbas the Great. Also included in the sale is a rare Persian Safavid vase carpet fragment, once part of a impressively large Persian Kerman carpet woven during the 17th century. Other fragments of the same carpet are housed in more than 10 of the worlds top museums including the V & A. Other highlights include a rare 16th century Persian Tabriz border fragment, and a beautiful Qajar rug who's designs are closely related to early Persian Safavid Kerman vase carpets, a rare part silk Salor carpet from Turkmenistan, a Pinwheel Caucasian Kazak rug, and a Imperial silk and metal thread Palace rug from northern China.
