Oriental Rug & Carpet Auction News

The month of October hosts the most Oriental rug and carpet auctions, and this October is no exception. The Austria Auction Company is holding a sale of fine antique oriental rugs, at their Palais Breuner rooms in Vienna on Saturday 24th October 2020. The sale offers a fine selection from Europe's collectors and grand houses, including a rare single medallion Eagle or Sunburst Kazak rug, this design is attributed to the Chelaberd in the southeast Caucasus, (lot 68 estimated €25,000-€35,000). Dorotheum will auction almost 240 rugs, carpets and textiles at their Vienna showroom on Monday 21st October 2020. Highlights are a fine Persian Kerman Lavar rug with inscriptions (lot 91), a large group of fine Persian carpets in various sizes, a selection of Caucasian rugs, a rare Ningxia tiger rug (lot 172), a Kashgar silk carpet, an Ivory Anatolian Ushak carpet, and a very striking Persian Serapi carpet. Stuttgart's Nagel Auction's are holding their sale of Collector's Rugs & Carpets, Tribal & Oriental Art sale on Friday 23rd October 2020, inccded in the sale are a number of collectors rugs,carpets and textiles from a private German collection. Over in the US Material Culture's sale of fine decorative and collectible antique oriental rugs, will take place on Wednesday 21st October 2020, they have 299 lots of Persian carpets from American estates, highlights include a 17th century Spanish Alcaraz rug (lot 15 estimated $3,000-$5,000) a 17th century Anatolian Ushak carpet (lot 22 estimated $7,000-$10,000) an early 19th century Chinese metal thread rug, along with outstanding Persian room-size carpets from Serapi, Bakshaish, Ziegler, Ferahan, Tabriz, and a mansion size Bidjar carpet.
