Sotheby’s London, Arts of the Islamic World

Sotheby's auction house in London will be holding their Arts of the Islamic World & India sale on 31st March 2021. The sale will a number of important pieces including a Safavid niche rug in wool on a silk foundation, inlaid with silver metal thread, from the so-called Salting or Top Kapi group (lot 138). From a private European collection The Athens Niche rug and from a US private collector a early 17th century Marquand Animal rug (lot 162), this is a rare example of Persian Isfahan weaving which depicts wild animals and flowering plants. From the same collector a fine 17th century Persian Isfahan rug (lot 161), and an 18th century northwest Persian rug with figural design (lot 164). Other highlights of the sale are a yellow ground Transylvanian rug with green ground gothic boarders, and a number of early Anatolian and Caucasian rugs, plus a good Bokhara Suzani (lot 183).
