Austria Auction Company Fine Antique Oriental Rugs

The Austria Auction Company will be holding their fine oriental rugs and carpets sale on 18th March 2023 at their Vienna sale rooms. This sale has a number of interesting and collectable pieces including a Persian Bakhtiari rug, lot 147 (est €10-14,000) it has a signed cartouche dating it to 1312AH/1913, it was commissioned by Mr Soltan Morad Khan Bakhtiyar, the son of Esfandiar Khan Sardar Asad I, a supreme chief of the Bakhtiari tribe. this period in Persian history was known for the constitutional revolution in Iran that was lead by his uncle. Lot 135 a fine Persian Saryk main carpet (est €20-30,000) is a piece of note, also a Sharisabz Suzani lot 121 (est €14-18,000). Lot 105 a 17th century Transylvanian rug, woven in Anatolia and used in a Protestant Church in Romania this rug was thought to be Transylvanian hence the description.
