Persian rugs by the Master weaver Amogli
Amogli was a Master weaver from the Persian city of Meshed. His rugs were distinguished from other Khorasan rugs by their blue selvedge. Amogli died at the beginning of the twentieth century, but rugs woven by him can still be found and are often signed.
Meshed rugs in general are hard wearing and can represent good value, so if your looking for a Persian rug, Meshed's are worth a look. London's wholesale Oriental rug warehouses have a large selection of Persian Meshed rugs both old and new. David J.Wilkins Oriental rug experts can help you find a Persian rug that best suits you requirements. www.orientalrugexperts.com

Navajo rugs
Navajo rugs and textiles were produced by the Navajo people who lived in the four corners area of North America, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. The rugs and textiles were originally for there own utilitarian use but by the end of the 19th century Navajo weavers began to produce rugs for tourism and export. They are flat woven on a vertical loom and are similar to Kilims (Kelims) of the the middle east and Asia. The new Navajo rugs typically have geometric designs with bright earthy colours.

The story of two Armenian rugs
The story of two Armenian rugs, one given to US President Calvin Coolidge, and another recently discovered in a San Diego home. These rugs were given as thanks for the US's first humanitarian aid effort and the tragic fate of Armenians in Turkey 100 years ago.
The rug was woven by refugee orphans in Lebanon who had been saved from the 1915 Ottoman massacre, more than 3,000 rugs were made and given to American donors who had paid for the children to be looked after.
Armenian rugs and carpets can still be found in London's Oriental rug warehouses, and access to these warehouses can be obtained through a recognized broker such as David J.Wilkins of www.orientalrugexperts.com.

An outline agreement has been reached on the future of Iran's nuclear program. All of us in the world of Persian rugs and Oriental carpets hope this will lead to a lifting of the sanctions and a normalization of the Persian rug and carpet trade.
David J Wilkins Oriental rug brokers of London are looking forward to an increase in trade, in particular with the US, which has been a no go area when dealing in Persian rugs and carpets.
The sanctions have not just affected Persian rugs but Oriental rugs and carpets in general, and David Wilkins thinks the lifting of the sanctions will lead to an increase in demand over the whole Oriental rug trade.

Alterations of Persian rugs and Oriental carpets
When purchasing Old and Antique Oriental rugs and carpets it's important to look for alterations or to use a car traders term "cut and shut". Many Old Persian rugs and Oriental carpets have had a hard life and damage that has occurred in one area and can not be economically repaired can be completely removed and the rug re-joined altering the size in the process.
This was not always done because of damage, if pillars or fireplaces got in the way, large sections of Persian carpet were removed, and this can be found in many fine country houses. It may also occur in modern handmade rugs and carpets just to alter the size, and should be invisible from the front if executed by an expert.
The best way to tell if an Oriental rug or Persian carpet has been altered is to look on the back, you should see the repair. The main reason to be aware of this is the loss in value, an Oriental carpet or Persian rug that has been altered will not command the same price as a pristine piece.
You may wish to avail yourself with expert advise, David J Wilkins of www.orientalrugexperts.com London, has been looking after his clients interests in all matters regarding Oriental carpets and Persian rugs, and knows just what to look for and more importantly what to avoid.

Persian rugs to rent
There are many occasions when it is preferable to rent a Persian rug or Oriental carpet, rather than going to the expense of purchasing the rug or carpet which will only be used for a limited time.
Persian rugs are an essential decorative item that may be used for Film and photo shoots as well as Theatre sets and special occasions, they can also be an important tool when used in visual merchandising.
Oriental rugs and carpets which are used in period films have to be specially chosen to reflect the correct date being portrayed. This was very apparent in a resent Tudor series that should have had Oriental rugs from the Renaissance period, which typically used Anatolian rugs. Unfortunately this program had relatively new Persian rugs and carpets which looked wrong.
David J.Wilkins has been selecting Persian rugs and carpets for film prop hire companies for over 30 years, and in that time has built up an expert knowledge of whats required. Dealing direct from London's Oriental rug warehouses he has the huge stock available to make sure the correct rugs are chosen. www.orientalrugexperts.com

The Victorian love of Oriental rugs
They is no doubting the Victorians love of Oriental rugs and carpets. They was a huge increase in demand of fine handmade rugs and carpets from exotic places such as Persia,Turkey and India. Its not clear if the desire was a result of the new wealthy Victorian classes or the need to add some colour to the dingy Victorian decor, probably a combination of the two.
But one thing is clear it brought the Persian rugs and carpets to the forth front of interior designers of the period, and this legacy has remained with us today. It also helped London to become a world centre for Oriental rugs and carpets. Oriental rug dealers and experts from all over the world chose London for its safety and political influence, and even today London is still an important centre for fine Oriental rugs and carpets from Persia,Afghanistan,Pakistan and indian and many other handmade rug producing countries. www.orientalrugexperts.com

Where best to buy Persian rugs
If you're in the market for a new Persian carpet where do you go? The obvious place would be the high street stores, but the stock and expertise is usually low not to mention the extortionate prices.
And beware of fly-by-night operations, whenever you see closing down sales or temporary premises being used to hold Oriental rug sales usually in village or town halls across the country, stay well clear.
Undoubtedly the way to pay the lower prices is to go to one of the Oriental rug brokers who have access to London's Oriental rug wholesale warehouses. Here the broker pays the wholesale price and because he has low over-heads, he sells the Persian rugs on to you at a price that is much lower than you would have to pay in a retail store.
David J Wilkins Oriental rug broker has been guiding people around London's Oriental rug warehouses for over 35 years. So if you're looking for expert knowledge with access to huge stocks of Persian rugs at lower prices than retail stores, why not give him a call.
